🎙️ Cloned voices

AI can copy a voice, so your family needs a secret word.

A voice feels as unique as fingerprints, and we instantly recognize mom, dad, or a friend on the phone. But today AI can listen to just a few seconds of a voice and then copy it almost perfectly. This is called voice cloning. Scammers use it to call while pretending to be a relative in trouble: 'it's me, I have a problem, send me money'. The voice sounds real, and that is exactly why it works. It is not your fault if someone could fall for it: it is a trick built to touch the heart and make us act fast, without thinking.

The best defense is simple and almost fun: a family secret word. Choose it together, a strange word nobody else knows, like 'blue-sunflower'. If a voice on the phone asks for money or urgent things, you ask for the secret word. If they do not know it, they are not who they claim to be. Another trick is to hang up and call back the real number you know. Remember: no real relative will be angry if you check. People who love you understand that pausing to verify is smart, not a lack of trust.

🎒 Try it in class (or at home)

With your family, choose a 'secret word' and agree to use it if a strange phone call arrives.
