⏰ Screens and chatbots: time slipping away

Apps and AI are designed to hold your attention. Learning to stop is a superpower.

The most famous apps have entire teams studying how to keep you glued: endless videos, notifications, daily rewards. Chatbots can capture you too: they always reply, with infinite kindness, and chatting with them can feel easier than talking to real people. Time slips away and the good things, playing outside, seeing friends, sleeping, shrink.

The best defence is noticing. Warning signs: you skip going out to stay on the screen, you get irritated when it is time to switch off, the AI feels like the one that truly listens. Countermoves: screen times agreed in advance with parents, screens out of the bedroom at night, and one hour a day of play completely unplugged. Whoever commands the tool is stronger than whoever is commanded by it.

🎒 Try it in class (or at home)

Time diary: for 3 days, the class records screen time and what they would have done instead. Then everyone picks one "freed hour" to dedicate to what they miss most.
