AI does billions of calculations, needing many special computers.
Running an AI is like organizing a math contest with billions of operations all at once, in very little time. An ordinary home computer would do them one after another, taking hours. That is why special chips called GPUs are used, which are like many tiny calculators working in parallel, all in the same instant. Imagine having to color a thousand drawings: one child takes a whole day, but a thousand children together finish in a minute. GPUs are those thousand children, and that is why AI answers so fast.
All this work, though, uses a lot of electricity and makes heat, just like a phone that warms up when you game too long. Big AIs run in huge sheds full of GPUs, called data centers, which need power and fans to cool down day and night. It is like a busy restaurant kitchen: many stoves lit, lots of heat, a big bill. That is why scientists try to make AIs more efficient, so they think while using less, a bit like a car that goes more kilometers on the same liter of fuel. Less waste is good for the planet too.
