AI School › Ethics and the future · Lesson 25 of 130

🧑‍⚖️ If AI makes a mistake, whose fault is it?

Responsibility always belongs to people: those who build it, use it, decide with it.

If an AI gives bad advice and someone gets hurt, is it the computer's fault? A grown-up question with a clear answer: responsibility always belongs to people. To whoever built the AI carelessly, whoever used it for things it was unfit for, whoever copied the answer instead of checking it.

It is like a bicycle: if the brakes are faulty, the maker answers for it; if you run a red light, you do. "The AI told me" is worth as much as "some guy on the street told me": zero. This idea makes you freer rather than guiltier: it means the captain of your digital life is you, and the machines remain your crew.

🎒 Try it in class (or at home)

Mock trial: "an AI suggested a wrong test answer and Marco copied it". Assign roles (judge, Marco's defence, the AI's defence, witnesses) and decide: how is responsibility shared?
