©️ Is copying stealing? Copyright in simple words

Works have authors. AI learned from millions of works: the debate is open.

When you draw something of your own, it belongs to you: that is copyright, and it protects creators. Now, AIs learned by looking at millions of drawings, photos and texts made by real people. Many artists say: "it studied my work and now produces similar things: is that fair?". It is one of the hottest debates in the AI world, and courts are still working on it.

In your own small world, two rules are clear. One: signing an AI-made work with your name is unfair, like signing a classmate's drawing. Two: asking the AI to copy a living artist's style and passing it off as original disrespects their work. Creating with inspiration is fine, copying while pretending is a different matter. Artists get thanked, credited and, in the grown-up world, paid.
