🎮 AI inside video games

It moves the characters, builds worlds and challenges you at the right level.

When you play, the enemies chasing you and the friends helping you are not driven by other people: they are driven by an AI. It decides whether the monster attacks you or runs, whether your teammate passes the ball or shoots. Programmers teach it rules and behaviours, so the game feels alive and every match is different. Some AIs even learn from the way you play, to make the challenge neither too easy nor too hard.

AI also helps build huge worlds: instead of drawing every tree and mountain by hand, creators give the AI some guidance and it generates endless landscapes. It is a powerful help, but the fun still comes from human ideas: the story, the characters, the thrill of a win. A video game is art and craft together, and AI is a tool in the hands of those who imagine it.

🎒 Try it in class (or at home)

Invent the "enemy rules" for a paper game: when it chases, when it flees, when it hides. Let a classmate try: does it act like an AI? Improve the rules until it feels alive.
