🗣️ The AI that saves rare languages

It translates and preserves languages spoken by very few people in the world.

There are thousands of languages in the world, and some are spoken by only a few hundred people, often elderly. When these grandparents are gone, those languages risk disappearing forever, taking away stories, songs and unique ways of seeing the world. An AI can help: it listens to and records those who still speak the languages, learns their words and builds translators that let younger people rediscover them.

Translating a rare language is hard, because the AI has very few examples to learn from: it is like studying for a test with only half a page of notes. That is why the patience of experts and the voice of communities are needed, working together with technology. AI does not replace those who keep a language alive: it gives them a megaphone. Each saved language is a treasure of humanity kept glowing, and technology becomes a bridge between generations and peoples.

🎒 Try it in class (or at home)

Ask grandparents or relatives for a word in dialect or another language and build a small class dictionary. You have just taken the first step an AI takes too: collecting examples.
