📜 AI rules explained for kids

Europe wrote the AI Act: the riskier an AI is, the more rules it must follow.

AI needs rules too, just as traffic needs traffic lights. In Europe an important law was born called the «AI Act». Its idea is simple and clever: not all AIs are the same, so it sorts them by how much risk they carry. An AI that suggests a song is low risk; an AI that decides whether a person can get a job or a treatment touches real life, so it is high risk and must follow strict rules. Some AIs, like ones that would secretly spy on everyone or give people a «social score», are seen as too dangerous and banned completely.

Why does such a law concern us? Because it protects you. Thanks to these rules, a company must tell you when you are talking to an AI and not a person, must explain how an important system works, and must check it does not treat anyone unfairly. It is not a law against technology: it is a law that wants good, safe and honest technology. Knowing these rules exist makes you a stronger digital citizen, because you know you have rights and that someone must answer if an AI is misused.
