It helps read mountains of data and uncover things hidden in nature.
Scientists today gather crazy amounts of data: millions of stars, billions of DNA letters, photos of cells under the microscope. No human could read them all in a lifetime. An AI, instead, can sift through them and find hidden patterns: "these cells look alike", "this star behaves strangely". It is like having a tireless helper who leafs through entire libraries and tells you where to look.
One of the most famous examples is about proteins, the tiny bricks that make our body work. Understanding their shape used to take years of work; an AI learned to guess it in minutes, helping medicine and biology all over the world. But discovery does not end there: scientists use the AI's clue as a starting point, then they check, discuss and understand the why. Human curiosity stays the engine of everything.
Bring a pile of mixed buttons or bottle caps: challenge each other to group them by colour and shape as fast as possible. Finding patterns quickly is exactly what AI gives scientists.
