🎨 Can AI be imaginative?

AI mixes things it has already seen; true imagination grows from your experiences and wishes.

AI can create a drawing of an astronaut cat playing the violin on the moon, and it looks like pure imagination. In reality it is combining pieces of millions of images it has already seen: cats, spacesuits, violins, moons. It is brilliant at mixing, a bit like a cook joining new ingredients. But it never wished to draw that cat, feels no joy in doing it, has no personal reason. Its «imagination» is a reshuffle without intention, while yours grows from what excites, scares or amuses you.

Human imagination is special because it starts from within. A child invents a monster under the bed because they really fear the dark a little; an artist paints the sea because that day they miss home. Behind every idea there is a lived life. AI can be a fantastic tool to help you create, like a magic brush, but the brush has no ideas: you do. Using it to explore your own ideas is wonderful; letting it think for you switches off the most precious thing you have, your own voice.
