Alibaba Cloud, served by Groq
The open one, the one you can take home
Qwen is Alibaba Cloud's model family, with downloadable weights under the Apache 2.0 licence: anyone with the hardware can run it on their own servers, sending nothing to anyone. Here it runs on Groq's hardware, which makes it answer before all the others.
Qwen is the answer to the question "what if I do not want to send my data anywhere". The weights download, the model runs on your machines, and the sentences you type stay where they are. For a hospital, a law firm or a company whose data cannot leave, this is not a technical preference, it is the only road. In exchange you give up something on hard problems, where the frontier models stay ahead.
Two names not to confuse: Groq with a q is the chip company that runs Qwen here. Grok with a k is Elon Musk's model, a different thing from a different company.
Data that cannot leave the company, high volumes, instant answers.
Ask it and a frontier model the same question, and time the difference.
It joins the seven way comparison, and it is usually the first to answer.
