Funzione di perdita
The loss function is the numerical measure of how far a model's predictions stray from the correct answers. It returns a high value when the model is very wrong and a low one when it's close: it's the compass guiding all learning. Think of a teacher assigning an error score to each assignment: the student-model's goal is to lower that score lesson after lesson. Different forms suit different tasks: mean squared error for predicting numbers, cross-entropy for classification and next-token prediction. The loss value is then differentiated by backpropagation to figure out how to adjust parameters.
Choosing the loss function defines what 'doing well' actually means for the model. A poorly designed loss can push training toward unwanted behavior, while a well-calibrated one aligns optimization with the real goal.
La funzione di perdita è la misura numerica di quanto le previsioni di un modello si discostino dalle risposte corrette. Restituisce un valore alto quando il modello sbaglia molto e basso quando è vicino al giusto: è la bussola che guida tutto l'apprendimento. Pensa a un insegnante che assegna un voto di errore a ogni compito: l'obiettivo dello studente-modello è ridurre quel voto lezione dopo lezione. Esistono forme diverse a seconda del compito: l'errore quadratico medio per prevedere numeri, la cross-entropy per classificazioni e previsione del prossimo token. Il valore della perdita viene poi derivato dalla backpropagation per capire come correggere i parametri.
La scelta della funzione di perdita definisce cosa significhi davvero 'fare bene' per il modello. Una perdita mal progettata può spingere l'addestramento verso comportamenti indesiderati, mentre una ben calibrata allinea l'ottimizzazione all'obiettivo reale che si vuole raggiungere.
