Machine learning is the branch of AI where systems learn from data instead of being programmed with explicit rules. Rather than writing "if X then Y," you show the system thousands or millions of examples and the algorithm discovers on its own the patterns linking input and output.
It is the technology behind spam filters, recommendation systems, facial recognition and, in its most recent evolution, deep learning, language models like ChatGPT and Claude.
