Compute (potenza di calcolo)
Compute is the umbrella term for the total amount of computing power used to train or run an AI model. It is not a single number but the combination of processors, memory, time and energy deployed. Think of compute as the "fuel" of artificial intelligence: the more you burn, the longer and larger you can make your models work. A small laptop experiment uses little compute; training a frontier model devours as much as a small town over months, with thousands of accelerators running day and night. It has become a strategic resource, contested like oil or rare earths.
Compute matters because it is among the strongest factors deciding how capable a model can become. Scaling laws show that more data and more compute tend to yield better models, making it a crucial competitive advantage.
