Hugging Face is a platform and community that has become the main reference point for sharing open AI models. It works as a large repository where researchers and companies publish models, training datasets and demo applications, made easy to download and reuse. Around this hub, Hugging Face has developed widely used software libraries that standardise how models are loaded and run, drastically reducing technical complexity. It also offers cloud services to train and host models without managing your own infrastructure.
Hugging Face's role is infrastructural: it does not necessarily produce the best-known models, but provides the ecosystem that makes the whole open-AI landscape accessible and interoperable, fostering transparency, reproducibility and collaboration.
