Llama 3

Llama 3 is a family of language models released by Meta with open weights, meaning they can be downloaded and run freely by anyone within the licence terms. It comes in several sizes, from compact models that run on a single computer to very large ones requiring dedicated infrastructure. Open weights made Llama 3 a reference point for research and for companies wanting to run AI on their own servers without sending data to external providers. Many derived, specialised models are built from Llama through fine-tuning on specific domains.

Definition

This strategy has fuelled a vast ecosystem of tools around Llama models, favouring data control, customisation and reduced dependence on closed commercial APIs.
