Role-chain prompting is a technique in which the task is divided into successive phases, each entrusted to a different role adopted by the model, so that the output of one role becomes the input of the next, simulating a workflow with multiple specialized figures intervening in sequence.

Each phase of the prompt assigns the model a specific role with a narrow task: a first pass might ask the model to take on the role of an analyst gathering and organizing information, a second pass has it act as an author turning that information into text, a third has it act as a reviewer checking the final result. Each role works only on the previous role's output, keeping the overall task broken down into distinct responsibilities.
This technique is useful for replicating articulated editorial or production processes within an automated flow, where separating responsibilities by role helps keep the quality of each phase high: drafting content that moves from a research phase, to a writing phase, to a review phase, each conducted by the model with a dedicated role instruction.
The term combines two techniques already known in prompting, role prompting and prompt chaining, describing the specific case where the chain of successive steps is organized around an explicit role change at each phase, rather than around a simple sequence of sub-tasks.
La catena di ruoli nel prompt e' una tecnica in cui il compito viene diviso in fasi successive, ciascuna affidata a un ruolo diverso assunto dal modello, in modo che l'output di un ruolo diventi l'input del ruolo successivo, simulando un flusso di lavoro con piu' figure specializzate che intervengono in sequenza.
Ogni fase del prompt assegna al modello un ruolo specifico con un compito ristretto: un primo passaggio puo' chiedere al modello di vestire i panni di un analista che raccoglie e organizza informazioni, un secondo passaggio lo fa agire da autore che trasforma quelle informazioni in un testo, un terzo lo fa agire da revisore che controlla il risultato finale. Ogni ruolo lavora solo sull'output del ruolo precedente, mantenendo il compito complessivo scomposto in responsabilita' distinte.
Questa tecnica e' utile per replicare processi editoriali o produttivi articolati all'interno di un flusso automatizzato, dove separare le responsabilita' per ruolo aiuta a mantenere alta la qualita' di ogni fase: la stesura di un contenuto che passa da una fase di ricerca, a una di scrittura, a una di revisione, ciascuna condotta dal modello con un'istruzione di ruolo dedicata.
Il termine unisce due tecniche gia' note nel prompting, il role prompting e il prompt chaining, descrivendo il caso specifico in cui la catena di passaggi successivi e' organizzata attorno a un cambio di ruolo esplicito a ogni fase, piuttosto che attorno a una semplice sequenza di sotto-compiti.
