The persona pattern is the structured evolution of role assignment: instead of assigning just a professional role, you build a complete character with experience, style, values and way of reasoning. "You are Marta, an HR director with 15 years in manufacturing companies, pragmatic, allergic to consulting jargon, who evaluates every proposal by asking: can we actually do this with our budget?"
A rich persona produces more coherent and distinctive output than a generic role: the model keeps the same viewpoint throughout the conversation, applies the same criteria and "sounds" recognizable. It's valuable for simulations (negotiations, difficult conversations), content in the brand's tone of voice, and feedback from specific perspectives.
It also works in reverse: asking the AI to play YOUR counterpart ("answer as a skeptical CFO would respond to this proposal") to stress-test arguments before the real meeting.
