Role Assignment

Role Assignment is the prompting technique of explicitly telling the AI which role it should play before responding. Instead of writing "Help me with a marketing strategy," you write "Act as a CMO with 10 years of B2B SaaS experience and help me build the marketing strategy for next quarter's launch."

Definition

Assigning a precise role radically changes the linguistic register, specialized vocabulary, perspective, and depth of the model's responses. A well-defined role includes: the profession (manager, lawyer, doctor), the sector (tech, retail, finance), the seniority level (junior, senior, C-level), and possibly further characteristics like approach or mindset.
