Prompt Iteration

Iterazione del prompt

Prompt iteration is the process of progressively refining a prompt based on the outputs received: write a first version, evaluate the response, identify what's missing or off, fix the prompt and retry. Professional prompting is almost always iterative.

Definition

The effective method: change one thing at a time (otherwise you don't know what worked), diagnose before fixing (is the output vague because context is missing? wrong format because it wasn't specified?), and save the versions that work. Every iteration teaches you something about the model and the task.

It is exactly Grace's training loop: you write the prompt, get a score and feedback on the 7 dimensions, identify the weak dimension, try again. The difference is that Grace makes explicit and measurable what stays implicit in everyday use.

How it's used in Grace

Every Grace scenario is built for iteration: after each attempt you receive the breakdown across the 7 dimensions and the coach's feedback. Retrying the same scenario while improving your weak dimensions is the fastest way to raise your score, and later improvements still earn XP.
