Prompt Template

A prompt template is a reusable prompt with variable placeholders: the structure stays fixed, the details change with each use. Example: "Act as [ROLE]. Analyze [DOCUMENT] and produce [OUTPUT] for [AUDIENCE], respecting [CONSTRAINTS]".

Definition

Templates turn prompting from improvisation into a repeatable process: design work is done once, quality becomes consistent and transferable to colleagues. Mature organizations build libraries of validated templates for recurring use cases, complaint responses, contract analysis, weekly reports.

A good template incorporates the 7 dimensions of the Grace method: role, context, objective, constraints, format, audience and efficiency. Training on scenarios is precisely how you internalize the structure that later crystallizes into templates.
