Audience (nel prompting)
In the context of prompting, audience is the specification of who will read or use the output produced by the AI. It is one of the most overlooked elements in generic prompts, yet it has an enormous impact on the result: the same content for a technician, a manager, a CEO, and a customer are four completely different texts in terms of register, vocabulary, technical depth, and focus.
An effective audience specification includes: the recipient's professional role (CFO, technician, recruiter, customer), their level of expertise on the topic (expert, intermediate, non-technical), the recipient's expectations and goals, and what they already know, so you don't restate the obvious or use incomprehensible terms.
In Grace's evaluation system, Audience is one of the 7 dimensions scored, with a weight that varies from scenario to scenario (15% in the first scenario of the catalog, for example). Advanced scenarios often include multiple audiences or audiences with specific traits that require careful profiling to get a genuinely usable output.
In Grace, Audience is one of the dimensions scored on every scenario, with a weight that changes case by case. In business scenarios, the audience is almost always stated in the scenario text (e.g. "the non-technical CEO", "the legal team", "front line employees"). Including this information in your prompt completely transforms the quality of the generated output.
