Demonstration selection is the strategic choice of which examples to place in a few-shot prompt, since example quality and relevance affect output far more than their quantity. Examples similar to the user's input, diverse among themselves, and correctly formatted guide the model better. Example: to classify a refund support ticket, you dynamically select 3 past refund-ticket examples (by semantic similarity) rather than 3 random ones; seeing cases close to the current problem, the model classifies more accurately.

Use it when doing few-shot on variable inputs: retrieve the examples most similar to the current input (often via embeddings and similarity search) instead of a fixed set. Watch order and class balance: all-same-category examples can bias the answer.

La selezione degli esempi (demonstration selection) è la scelta strategica di quali esempi inserire in un prompt few-shot, poiché la qualità e la pertinenza degli esempi influiscono enormemente sull'output più della loro quantità. Esempi simili all'input dell'utente, diversificati fra loro e corretti nel formato guidano meglio il modello. Esempio: per classificare un ticket di supporto sul rimborso, selezioni dinamicamente 3 esempi passati di ticket sul rimborso (per similarità semantica) invece di 3 esempi casuali; il modello, vedendo casi vicini al problema attuale, classifica in modo più accurato.

Usala quando fai few-shot su input variabili: recupera gli esempi più simili all'input corrente (spesso con embedding e ricerca per similarità) invece di usarne un set fisso. Attento all'ordine e al bilanciamento delle classi: esempi tutti della stessa categoria possono introdurre un bias nella risposta.
