Gemini Flash

Gemini Flash is a lightweight variant of Google's Gemini model family, optimised for speed and low cost. While the Pro versions aim for maximum quality, Flash targets high-volume tasks where latency and price per request are decisive: text classification, data extraction, quick answers, summaries. It is multimodal, able to process text, images, audio and video, and offers a large context window that allows long documents to be analysed in a single request. It is delivered through Google AI APIs and the Vertex AI platform, and embedded in various Google products.

Definition

Flash's rationale is a trade-off: performance sufficient for most practical use cases at a fraction of the cost of flagship models, making large-scale automation economically viable.
